Effect of Operating Parameters on Bio-oil Yield from Pyrolysis of Waste Tyres in Lab Scale Fixed Bed Reactor
Abstract
Pyrolysis of waste tyres was carried out in nitrogen atmosphere in a lab scale fixed bed reactor. Effect of operating parameters on yield of bio-oil was studied by varying temperature (350-550oC), heating rate (10, 15, 20 oC/min) and particle size (10, 15, 20 mm). It was found from the experiments that maximum yield of bio-oil was 47 percent at temperature of 550oC, particle size 10 mm and heating rate 100C/min. The higher heating value of bio-oil was 41.67 MJ/kg which revealed that it was comparable with furnace oil.
